Text: Henry CRUSE (Ann DANIEL , Joseph DANIEL , John DANIEL , Joseph , John , ) was born in 1840 in Imber, Wiltshire. He died in 1935 in Cosham, Hampshire. Henry was employed as in 1861. He enteredon 15 Sep 1866 into Wiltshire Constabulary, Constable, No. 82, 4th Class. He was promotedon 1 Mar 1868 to Constable, 2nd Class. He was promotedon 1 Jul 1872 to Constable, 1st Class. He was promotedon 3 Sep 1876 to Constable, Merit Class. He was promotedon 1 Apr 1879 to Sergeant, 2nd Class. He was promotedin 1881 to Sergeant, 1st Class. He was promotedin 1884 to Inspector. He retired on 24 Feb 1896 in (Pensioned Off).

"Henry Cruse joined the Wiltshire Police in (1866?), when he was 26. andserved for 30 years. At the time of his death in 1935 he was described as'the oldest police pensioner in Great Britain' and the last survivor ofthe 'peelers' - the constabulary formed by Sir Robert Peel. Henry Crusemay have left school early, but he reached the rank of Inspector.
Like many a Plainsman before him, he had a large family. At the time ofhis death, two weeks before his ninety-fifth birthday, he had 60descendants. These included six children, 22 grandchildren, 27great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild."

During that time he wasstationed at Bradford-on-Avon, Broadchalke, Corsham, Marlborough,Melksham, Mere, New Swindon, Old Swindon and Yarnbrook.
